22nd April: The Evolution of Yoga.

The Evolution of Yoga: A Modern Postural Perspective.

This workshop delves into the history and practice of Modern Postural Yoga, tracing its evolution and unpacking traditional elements with modern evidence-based movement theories and the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli. Participants will discover the importance of the spine as the engine of movement and how to use the breath to release tension from the body. The benefits of postural yoga, including improved physical health, enhanced mental well-being, and a strong foundation in practice, will also be explored. This workshop offers an opportunity to deepen knowledge and experience of the ancient tradition from a modern, evidence-based, and Scaravelli-inspired perspective.

24th June: A compliant Spine in Hatha Yoga.

Discover the Importance of a Compliant Spine in Yoga Practice.

This yoga workshop emphasises the significance of a compliant spine for healthy movement. It covers various topics, including recognising signs of a non-compliant spine and its impact on yoga practice. The workshop also delves into how to concentrate on a yoga routine to enable the spine to move compliantly, freely, and safely. Lastly, it offers valuable insights and techniques to prevent common injuries and discomfort while allowing ease of movement.

16th September: Breathing, it’s just you.

Unlock the Power of Breath through Yoga.

We, humans, come into the world knowing how to breathe. In yoga, we give breath special meaning because of its historical connection to prana (the vital life force). As a result, humans become tense in life. But if we are habitually tight, we don’t get to breathe optimally., humans, this workshop, I’ll teach techniques to release muscular tension. When there is less tension, your body self-regulates breathing. It is not about you imposing ideas on yourself. It is about you being you. Three things always affect breathing in yoga—our emotions, how much effort we are exerting and our postures. Your breath can cope with all of it if you allow it to. So breathing is about identity, about you being you.

2nd December: Theory of movement.

Exploring the Theory of Movement in Modern Yoga Practice.

This yoga workshop examines the theory of movement and its relevance to modern postural yoga practice. Participants will delve into the historical and cultural background of yoga asana and the principles of the theory to develop safe and effective methods for practising yoga that avoid harm to the body. Through discussions and practical exercises, participants will gain valuable insights and techniques to enhance their practice and improve their overall health and well-being.

Elaine and Erling have extensive knowledge of their field of Yoga with many years experience in practise and teaching. They offer a nurturing approach in their teaching and I thoroughly enjoyed my last workshop with them. As a dancer + fitness instructor I am constantly using my body and this style of Yoga allows me to unwind and relax and make subtle adjustments in the way I move. I shall be back for more workshops in the future! Thanks Elaine & Erling 🙂

  2. Penny Dyer

Thoroughly enjoyed the full day workshop – Elaine & Erling work seamlessly together to provide an insightful approach to their evolving yoga practice. Highly recommended!

I had a Great Experience at Isle of Yoga learning about Scaravelli Yoga … It was mind opening and has changed the way i think about yoga and how my body works … I particularly took away its not all about them super stretches (Hatha Yoga) there can be lots of work done with small interconnected movements…there was a great bunch of people there to share the experience with and i would like to say a special thank you to our warm hosts Erling McCracken and Elaine McCracken for this wonderful day 🙂

Another great workshop, my second, and I will be coming back for the next one as well. It’s great to be able to spend a day immersing oneself in the practice. I love the doing, my favourite part, but it is also good to be able to chat, ask questions and explore it in a workshop environment. I would recommend it to anyone but it has worked for me in giving me space and length in my body, especially my spine. Having space in the spine is a great feeling! Yoga, possibly not as you know it or have experienced it before.

Just been on an amazing Yoga Workshop in the Isle of Wight. Although I have practiced different types of yoga in the past, this is my first experience of Scaravelli yoga. It has taught me to stop striving for the posture and listen to my body.
Thank you Erling and Elaine for your wonderful hospitality in your lovely home.
I shall definitely be attending future workshops with you.

A lovely workshop in a warm and gracious environment with lovely hospitality. Like Betty, although I have practiced yoga for years this was my first experience of Scaravelli yoga and I greatly enjoyed it. The focus on inner movement and spaceousness of the body I found particularly helpful. Come with an open mind, be in the moment of the practice and enjoy a lovely relaxing, deepening day. I will definitely be booking some more classes.

The recent Scaravelli yoga Workshop helped me to think about the movements and how stretching yourself into a posture might not be the best thing for your body! Rather that smaller more focussed movement is better for you. Thanks Erling for a really interesting and informative day. Who would have thought moving so little could be so tiring!! A fabulous course. x
