Postural Yoga Fundamentals
Modern Postural Yoga Foundation Course
Our foundation course is based on Vanda Scaravelli’s ground-breaking principles. She was one of the forerunners of contemporary yoga and shared her distinctive interpretation of the practice, affectionately known as “Scaravelli-inspired Yoga.” Her teaching strategies emphasised finding and using the body’s inherent intelligence rather than forcing students into uncomfortable positions. We think this method makes yoga accessible to anyone, regardless of age, gender, physical condition, or fitness level.

Yoga Body
Postural Yoga
The ethos of Vanda Scaravelli’s approach to yoga is one of exploration and receptivity. Her focus on the body’s inherent intelligence helps us understand ourselves more deeply and find a more authentic connection with our practice. In this way, we can uncover new layers of ourselves through our yoga practice and come to appreciate the beauty of our human nature.
Developing Awareness
Yoga is more than just a physical practice. It is an opportunity to connect with our innermost selves and learn more about who we are. Through the practice of yoga, we can learn to listen to our bodies and understand what they are telling us. We can learn to discriminate between tension and effort and find the balance that is right for each individual. This self-awareness can help us to live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
The Felt Sense
When we practice yoga, we focus on the sensations of what we feel when we move. This felt sense helps us learn to differentiate the feeling of a relaxed muscle from that of a working muscle and that of an in-active muscle from a tense muscle. In Scaravelli-inspired yoga, we learn to find support through our skeleton, our bones. Resting through bones, as opposed to muscles, requires no effort, and muscles have less work to do when we arrange our bones well. When we practice like this, we learn to reduce habitually held tension. Yoga allows us to explore our body’s inherent intelligence and learn how to listen to what our bodies tell us.
Yoga Body
We focus our yoga foundation course on teaching students how to develop an awareness of their bodies through breath, yoga somatic movements, and other techniques. This helps students understand how to connect to their bodies and how to improve their posture.
In addition, we teach the basics of alignment and anatomy so that you can begin to understand what is happening in your body when you practice yoga postures. We also help you learn about the benefits of practising yoga for health and well-being.
Our yoga classes are designed to be accessible to all levels of experience. Our teachers will guide you through various poses with modifications as needed. You’ll learn how to modify poses to suit your needs and abilities.

Modern Postural Yoga Foundation Course
“Yoga for All”
Holistic, healthy, sustainable, ethical.
Our Modern Yoga Foundation Course is perfect for beginners who want to learn the basics of postural Yoga in a supportive and non-competitive environment.
This comprehensive 12-week program is designed to help you learn more about yoga than you would in a typical class, as well as help you develop and strengthen your own personal yoga practice.
Our course is modelled on evidence-based movement theories and the revolutionary teachings of Vanda Scaravelli, so you can be sure you’re getting a modern, progressive approach to Yoga that emphasises quality over quantity and respects your body’s innate intelligence.
You’ll learn about how your spine is the engine of your movement and how to use your breath to release tension from your body. We’ll also cover functional movement patterns, the history of Yoga, and Yoga Philosophy, so you can connect with the tradition and understand why Yoga is such an important practice. By the end of the course, you’ll have a stronger foundation for your practice and a better understanding of how to move in a natural and free way.
You will be invited to experience the many aspects of yoga – asana, pranayama, concentration (dharana) and meditation (dhyana). The Modern Yoga Foundation Course provides a solid foundation if further personal development within the framework of yoga practices and even yoga teacher training as a future option.
Although there is no compulsory written homework, students will be encouraged to keep a personal practice journal (written, auditory, photographic, or other) and background reading.
This course is suitable for beginners who wish to explore yoga but don’t yet feel comfortable practising alone. Our classes are taught by qualified instructors passionate about teaching students the foundations of yoga safely and effectively. We offer two levels of instruction—Beginner Level 1 and Intermediate Level 2. Both courses are available online and face-to-face.
