Modern Yoga Foundation Course
holistic, healthy, sustainable, ethical
Our foundation course is based on Vanda Scaravelli’s ground-breaking principles. She was one of the forerunners of contemporary yoga and shared her distinctive interpretation of the practice, affectionately known as “Scaravelli-inspired Yoga.” Her teaching strategies emphasised finding and using the body’s inherent intelligence rather than forcing students into uncomfortable positions. We think this method makes yoga accessible to anyone, regardless of age, gender, physical condition, or fitness level.
Are you looking to improve your yoga practice?

Scaravelli inspired yoga
Inspired by Vanda Scaravelliโs approach, I offer yoga classes beyond traditional forms.
intuitive knowledge
The Scaravelli-inspired yoga practice we follow cultivates acute inner listening, tapping into your bodyโs intuitive knowledge.
Yoga Body
The ethos of Vanda Scaravelli’s approach to yoga is one of exploration and receptivity. Her focus on the body’s inherent intelligence helps us understand ourselves more deeply and find a more authentic connection with our practice. In this way, we can uncover new layers of ourselves through our yoga practice and come to appreciate the beauty of our human nature.
Developing Awareness
Yoga is more than just a physical practice. It is an opportunity to connect with our innermost selves and learn more about who we are. Through the practice of yoga, we can learn to listen to our bodies and understand what they are telling us. We can learn to discriminate between tension and effort and find the balance that is right for each individual. This self-awareness can help us to live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
The Felt Sense
When we practice yoga, we focus on the sensations of what we feel when we move. This felt sense helps us learn to differentiate the feeling of a relaxed muscle from that of a working muscle and that of an in-active muscle from a tense muscle. In Scaravelli-inspired yoga, we learn to find support through our skeleton, our bones. Resting through bones, as opposed to muscles, requires no effort, and muscles have less work to do when we arrange our bones well. When we practice like this, we learn to reduce habitually held tension. Yoga allows us to explore our body’s inherent intelligence and learn how to listen to what our bodies tell us.

โHaving just spent three days with Erling and Elaine in their wonderful home and work space, I feel a strong but gentle redirection of my personal Yoga journey. Itโs hard to imagine a more natural and welcoming location in which to transition from a place of disquiet and distraction, to a more peaceful and energised shift of perspective. The Yoga itself demanded focus, and was at times quite intense, but the good pace of this work and time for rest, both during and between sessions, gave great room to become far more self aware. The learning created by Erlingโs subtle and personal approach has given me a great opportunity for growth. Clearly the methods he uses have been gained with great experience.โ

Yoga Body
We focus our yoga foundation course on teaching students how to develop an awareness of their bodies through breath, yoga somatic movements, and other techniques. This helps students understand how to connect to their bodies and how to improve their posture.
In addition, we teach the basics of alignment and anatomy so that you can begin to understand what is happening in your body when you practice yoga postures. We also help you learn about the benefits of practising yoga for health and well-being.
Our yoga classes are designed to be accessible to all levels of experience. Our teachers will guide you through various poses with modifications as needed, and you’ll learn how to modify poses to suit your needs and abilities.
