My Journey with Yoga
With over two decades dedicated to exploring and teaching yoga, my path has been shaped by curiosity about how our bodies naturally move and function. My journey led me to Vanda Scaravelli’s revolutionary approach, which resonated deeply with my understanding of how the body works harmoniously with gravity and breath.
My second yoga teacher qualification was Scaravelli-inspired, and this philosophy continues to inform my practice. However, my teaching has evolved to integrate contemporary movement science and somatic principles, honouring the body’s inherent wisdom.
My Approach
I believe yoga should serve the human body as it actually exists—not as an idealised form. Each of us carries unique movement patterns developed through our lifetime of experiences. These patterns reflect our personal history, environment, and nervous system’s adaptations.
This wisdom from my long-standing teacher, Pete Blackaby, guides my approach. Rather than imposing external forms on the body, I teach students to recognise the difference between unnecessary tension, appropriate effort, and natural ease.
“We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.”
T.S.Eliot
What Makes My Teaching Different
My yoga work emphasises functional movements that resemble normal human activities. I prioritise intelligent practice over prescriptive forms, helping you discover your body’s natural capabilities rather than forcing it into predetermined shapes.
This approach makes yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of age or physical ability. Whether you’re dealing with physical limitations, recovering from injury, or simply seeking a more mindful relationship with your body, my teaching adapts to your unique needs.
Working Together
I offer personalised one-to-one sessions that address your specific movement patterns and goals. Each session is an opportunity to deepen your awareness and develop a practice that supports your well-being both on and off the mat.
My intention is to guide you toward a yoga practice that enhances your life—one that builds confidence in your body’s abilities while respecting its boundaries. Together, we’ll explore movement patterns that serve you daily and create space for strength and ease.
