Our Venue.
Nestled in a serene setting, our venue features a modern, cosy one-bedroom flat in our annexe, overlooking a lush garden and the sea. The flat includes a lounge with a folding double futon sofa, ideal for two friends sharing the space. Our main house hosts the Yoga studio, a tranquil space refined over 19 years of dedicated use for Yoga and meditation. We also have a beautiful double room, with own bathroom in the main house.
Teaching Methods.
We specialise in Scaravelli-inspired Yoga, a form of Hatha Yoga that puts the individual’s needs at the forefront. This approach allows students to adapt poses to their own bodies, creating a sustainable practice that respects the traditional teachings while focusing on personal growth and understanding. A sustainable Yoga practice to benefit now and in later life.
Why it works
Unlike classical Yoga, which often prescribes specific poses, Scaravelli-inspired Yoga encourages adapting the asana to your unique body. This method focuses on the sensory experiences within each movement, promoting a somatic approach that aligns with the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
Philosophy and Approach
Our retreat emphasises freedom in practice—both physically and mentally—by teaching efficient muscle use to reduce tension and enhance ease of movement. This philosophy extends beyond the mat, advocating for a sustainable lifestyle that is mindful of personal well-being and environmental responsibility.
Your spine is the engine of locomotion.
Freedom is the goal of Yoga practice, both physically and mentally. We don’t need to load our movement with extra muscular tension; that is ineffective. Using muscles efficiently means not overworking them. Because then there is less tension, we tend to find movement easier when there is less tension. I teach this methodology in all my Yoga classes and workshops.

Having just spent three days with Erling and Elaine in their wonderful home and work space, I feel a strong but gentle redirection of my personal Yoga journey. It’s hard to imagine a more natural and welcoming location in which to transition from a place of disquiet and distraction, to a more peaceful and energised shift of perspective. The Yoga itself demanded focus, and was at times quite intense, but the good pace of this work and time for rest, both during and between sessions, gave great room to become far more self aware. The learning created by Erling’s subtle and personal approach has given me a great opportunity for growth. Clearly the methods he uses have been gained with great experience and his cooking is second to none – the “Rhaji Bhajis” were incredible! Elaine’s beautiful artwork, and the many houseplants which fill the high ceilings of their Victorian house, create a calm place of happiness where I felt immediately at ease and relaxed. Good conversations at the dinner table, a huge cast iron bath (!) and just a short stroll to the beach made this Yoga retreat ideal for me. I will definitely be returning as I feel my Yoga now has considerably more direction and purpose. Brett Walpole, May 2024
