Yoga, the sense of touch. How do we feel, what does it give you back?
How do we feel, what does the sense of touch give you?
Yoga is the sense of touch. If you are conscious of how your feet touch the ground, how you might hold them with your hands sitting, you may become aware of your touch. What does your contact give you back? The proprioception of this engagement. An awareness.
Proprioception. (prō’prē-ō-sěp’shən) The unconscious perception of movement and spatial orientation arising from stimuli within the body itself.continue reading

Yoga is not just about stretching
My take on a yoga practice is that it should support our normal human functional range of movement. Yoga should not impede on our evolutionary ability to move well and with ease. We need to learn how to listen to our bodies through feeling our felt sensations via our nervous system. If we can do that, we have the chance to undo deeply routed habitual patterns, that no end of stretching, pushing and pushing will undo.
Yoga for life & beginners
We want to practice and re-habituate movements that complement our everyday lives. These are the simple and often overlooked tasks like getting down and up from the floor without assistance and bending forward to pick things up and reaching above our heads. Yoga can help you notice yourself and thus create a better life to live into our old age.
In my beginner’s yoga classes, there is no pressure to perform, to achieve significant stretches. I encourage students to feel what they are doing. The feeling of movement, of how we notice ourselves is very advanced yoga. You don’t need to be flexible to be a yogi, beginner or advanced.
Scaravelli inspired yoga for beginners
The power of yoga to benefit the practitioner seems to arise- at least in part from nothing more complicated than the release of physiological and psychological tension and the quieting of the mind.William J. Broad
William J Broad concluded this in his excellent book The Science of Yoga (Washington Post Review). I completely agree with his findings; yoga should release tension and my Scaravelli inspired yoga approach to teaching beginners yoga or advanced has the central aim to do this.
There is no better time to start a beginners yoga class than now. If you want to help yourself improve the quality of life as you gently age, then a sensitive, intelligent approach to yoga practice, informed by contemporary understanding of how humans work and differ, is the way forward. My beginner’s yoga classes are just this.
It is easy to start, book now.
When I first heard about Yoga for Bhopal and the life-changing work of the Bhopal Medical Appeal charity, I knew I needed to get involved with their initiative. We often hear about Yoga in terms of the benefits it brings a practitioner, whether this is physiological, psychological or spiritual. However, it is also worth considering how Yoga can benefit the wider community. The work, the Sambhavna Trust Clinic in Bhopal, does is an exemplary example of this.Continue Reading
Practice yoga and all is coming.K Pattabhi Jois
This phrase is synonymous with K Pattabhi Jois, the Indian yoga teacher who popularised and developed the style of yoga known as Ashtanga vinyāsa. I am a Scaravelli inspired yoga teacher, to some polar opposite to Jois’s Ashtanga. However, I too practice. What compels me to practice, and why do I think others should or could do the same?continue reading
