Hi, I’m Erling McCracken
As a Scaravelli inspired yoga teacher based on the Isle of Wight, I bring over 25 years of experience to my teaching. My journey has been one of self-discovery and growth, deeply influenced by Vanda Scaravelli’s philosophy of trusting the body’s innate wisdom.
Here in my Shanklin studio, we’ll explore mindful movement, the natural pull of gravity, and a deeper connection to the breath. My goal is to create a space where you can experience yoga as a path to awareness, ease, and transformation. Yoga has the unique ability to calm the nervous system, which has many benefits.
My approach honours your unique movement patterns that have developed through a lifetime of sensory experiences and interactions with your environment. I blend Scaravelli-inspired principles with modern movement science to create yoga that respects how your body and mind naturally work together.
What They’re Saying…
★★★★★
I fractured my sacrum (lower back) eight months before I started my first-ever yoga class with Erling. I had a six-week one-to-one course. On arrival Erling made me feel very relaxed as i was quite nervous. My main problem was movement and confidence to bend due to my back injury. By the end of my course i felt much more confident to do things i had not been able to do since my injury thanks to Erling’s encouragement, knowledge and expertise. I would definitely recommend him.
Tina.
★★★★★
I think Erling is an excellent, very knowledgeable teacher, who I have experienced as someone who works with his clients and skilfully adopts the postures to the client’s needs rather than adjusting the client to the posture. I look forward to my next stay on the Island and more 1:1 lessons with Erling and Scaravelli-inspired yoga.

Frequently Asked Questions
I hope these answers help make your decision an easy YES!
What should I expect from my first session?
In your first session, we’ll work together to identify your movement patterns and observe how your spine responds to them. This helps lay the foundation for a practice tailored to your unique needs.
Is understanding my patterns important?
Absolutely. While we naturally move in ways that feel comfortable, these habits can sometimes limit the movement of certain areas of the spine. Recognising and addressing these patterns is key to developing a balanced and healthy practice.
Can a regular yoga practice address this?
Yes, a regular, informed practice begins a new relationship with your body and mind. Our work is deep and requires your full attention, leaving you feeling refreshed, connected, and more in tune with yourself.
Do I need to register before class?
All students must complete an online registration form before their first class. This form includes important health-related questions to ensure your safety and well-being during practice.
What should I wear to class?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows for unrestricted movement. To stay warm during relaxation at the end of class, it’s also a good idea to bring a jumper or shawl.
How is yoga different from other kinds of fitness?
The yoga I teach goes beyond exercise—it’s a holistic practice that incorporates breath, awareness, and mindful connection through muscles, bones, and the nervous system. Rooted in scientific principles, it encourages a kind and compassionate relationship with yourself.
