Meet Erling McCracken – a teacher whose curiosity about how our bodies naturally move has shaped over two decades of yoga practice and teaching on the beautiful Isle of Wight.
my yoga philosophy
My Journey with Yoga!
With over two decades of dedicated exploration and teaching yoga, my path has been shaped by a curiosity about how our bodies naturally move and function. My journey led me to Vanda Scaravelli’s revolutionary approach, which resonated deeply with my understanding of how the body works harmoniously with gravity and breath.
My second yoga teacher qualification was Scaravelli-inspired, and this philosophy continues to inform my practice. However, my teaching has evolved to integrate contemporary movement science and somatic principles, honouring the body’s inherent wisdom.
I believe yoga should serve the human body as it actually exists, not as an idealised form. Each of us carries unique movement patterns developed through our lifetime of experiences. These patterns reflect our personal history, environment, and nervous system adaptations.
This wisdom from my long-standing teacher, Pete Blackaby, guides my approach: Rather than imposing external forms on the body, I teach students to recognise the difference between unnecessary tension, appropriate effort, and natural ease.

My yoga is for everyone
A Practice of Discovery and Natural Movement
My yoga work emphasises functional movements that resemble normal human activities. I prioritise intelligent practice over prescriptive forms, helping you discover your body’s natural capabilities rather than forcing it into predetermined shapes. This approach makes yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of age or physical ability. Whether you’re dealing with physical limitations, recovering from injury, or simply seeking a more mindful relationship with your body, my teaching adapts to your unique needs.

yoga is your awareness
“Yoga Practice is My Life’s Thread”.
For over 30 years, this practice has been weaving together the different aspects of my life. Through my own journey, including experiences like recovering from a prolapsed disc and hip replacement, I’ve discovered that yoga is about much more than poses; it’s about understanding the body’s natural intelligence and wisdom.

“Hi Erling, Great class the other day. Felt full of space when I left…..pity I had to go to work and not just stay spaced out for the rest of the day ! Looking forward, Friday’s class.”
